Why We Bloom
Grow Love started with a simple dilemma.
A friend of mine created a garment with a gun on it. I wanted to support him, but I didn’t feel comfortable wearing it. Something about it didn’t sit right with me. I believed in my friend, but I also felt there was room to lead with something more positive.
One night, I took a dried flower from a vase at home and glued it onto the garment. It was simple, almost instinctive. The flower shifted the message. What once felt heavy became about choosing love before violence.
As time went on, I realized the design still felt contradictory especially after my friend shared that he couldn’t even wear it to a family gathering. Through conversations, feedback, and a lot of honest reflection, the design continued to evolve. Each version moved further away from conflict and closer to meaning.
When it came time to wash the garment, I hit another roadblock. The flower wouldn’t survive. That’s when I began thinking about how it could be removable. At first, I hand-sewed snaps onto the fabric, but they took away from the beauty of the piece. Eventually, through trial and error, I landed on magnets and metal plates.
That small technical choice opened up something much bigger. The flower could be removed, the garment could be washed, and suddenly there was room for choice. Different flowers. Different emotions. Different ways to express love.
This journey hasn’t been perfect. It’s been full of experimenting, learning, and refining. But it’s been honest and it’s led here.
Love feels limitless to me. This idea is just one small way to encourage more of it, and to remind ourselves of the beauty found in both nature and love.
